Description
Richmond, Virginia is a lovely community with a rich Jewish history. It is located 100 miles south of Washington, DC, 160 miles south of Baltimore, 270 miles south of Philadelphia, and 350 miles from New York City. It is the capitol of Virginia and was the capitol of the Confederate states. Over 1 million people live in the area, with around 12,000 Jews. There is a Torah Mesorah Elementary School with 160 students, a Girls Dormitory High School with 14 students, and a Boys Yeshiva High School with 27 students (Dormitory). The community has had an Eruv for 11 years, Daily minyanim, 2 Mikvaos (one in our shul), and three Orthodox Shuls. There is adequate kosher shopping including many chalav yisrael dairy products and glatt kosher meats, including Vineland and Meal Mart. We have a lovely synagogue, with a main sanctuary, a beis medrash chapel, a dining hall, two kosher kitchens (one for meat and one for dairy), and a multi-purpose room, soon to be used for coffee and showing of videos. Our building also houses the oldest continually used Mikvah in Richmond. We welcome guests any time, and are a small, warm congregation, always welcoming new people.
